Rainbow Dash for Miss A

Rainbow Dash was the request. Although Miss A was delighted, as you can see from her lovely smile - I was a bit disappointed as the buttercream did not hold it's shape from the piping bag. It tasted okay, but the temperature in the kitchen meant that it stayed too soft.

Happy 80th Yvonne

Moira's Mum turns 80. I am quite pleased with the way these roses turned out. The leaves are a bit bright. Once again, my ability to write with a piping bag is questionable. I must practice...I must practice...

Camaro

A young man asked me to make a cake for his girlfriend's Dad.  I have to say that this is the best 'boy' cake that I have made. I am really pleased with the end result. Chocolate cake with caramel filling. The comments were very positive.

"Great Scott' it's a DeLorean Cake

End result - one very happy customer - yay
Four large chocolate cakes, cut into even layers (well almost)

Filled with super yummy caramel butter cream - 500 grams butter, softened and whipped, add one can Caramelised condensed milk and whip some more, then 1 kg of icing sugar and whip some more - no need to add milk as super soft anyway. I needed two batches of the mix for this large cake.

One layer cake, one layer butter-cream, one layer cake, one layer butter-cream - you get the gist.....

Place templates and carve accordingly - it actually is harder than it might look to get the straightest lines - and I did not get the best finish - not too bad, but hmmmmm

Cover with butter-cream - just ordinary butter-cream this time, as a crumb coat.

Four packets of fondant - fortunately it is mild weather and it blended quite easily.
Add all of the necessary bits to finish off.  I had two sugar sheets made with wheel trim, rear lights and number plate and front windscreen, and these were a bit of a bugger to use this time.  They tore really easily (fortunately I had a double set made). All of the rest of the features are shaped from fondant.  This is the part I really enjoy.

Happy 70th Birthday Ian

Ian loves his wife, family, sport, good wine and friendship. I am his adopted daughter (not literally) after he and Colleen moved in next door and we lived next to each other for about 18 years.  I have watched their 7 (blended family) kids grow up and the grandkids come along. We went to Napier to help Ian celebrate his birthday on Saturday April 11th and it was a lovely day. We spent more time on the road then we actually spent in Napier, but it was worth every minute. Ian's cake is chocolate with caramel butter-cream (recipe in the previous post). Two of the young grandsons ate 'granddad' and poked out blue tongues.

I Dream of Genie

Chocolate cake with caramel buttercream - oh my, if you want something a little different and super yummy, then this is the one. 500gms butter whipped to nearly white, add 1kg of icing sugar, mix to combine and and half a tin of Caramelised condensed milk - try not to scoff it all at once!

Thomas, Thomas and more Thomas

Four Thomas themed cakes in two weeks. I am all Thomased out!. Chocolate cakes with buttercream or fondant or a combination of both - yum

Maisy for Jack

My little grandson loves Maisy - I had no choice. This was fun to make.

Edmonds Cook Book circa 1931

Catch your turkey and rabbits for these recipes....from my dearly loved Grandmother, this book was a gift to her on her 21st Birthday in 1931.

Cream Horns - a blast from the past

I think these are doing a renaissance - several of my friends have been making them.  I roll the ready made pastry a bit thinner then roll it onto the moulds. I brush with egg white wash then roll in granulated sugar, put a blob of raspberry jam in the bottom them fill with chantilly cream.

Christmas Pavlova Wreath

I saw these on Pinterest and had to give one a go - Mmmm

Kat's Baby Shower

Kat's gorgeous wee girl Skyla Gem was born on Christmas day - how lovely - this was a carrot cake with decadent cream cheese icing - covered with circles to give it a bit of pop - tasted fantastic, according to the tasters.

Kiwi - AB cupcake toppers

Leeanne from work wanted some toppers for her Dad's birthday - so I made these jerseys, scarves and rugby balls.
