Muffy for Sam

Sam is off to Massey to become a vet.  She loves her cat Muffy (one of several), and I had some fondant left over from her cat cake, so decided to have a go at Muffy's face. Here is the result. The original cat cake is below, but I was not very happy with that. I think the face above is more of a likeness to the cat.  Takes an absolute age to roll all of the 'hair' either way. All the very best at Massey Sam.

Little Miss Dinosaur

Of course, the thing about using a Wiltons pan is that it makes making a child's cake so much easier - hmmm, well I am not so sure. Yes you make your favourite recipe and out comes a nicely moulded cake - but there in starts the issues.  It seams simple enough, but piping a million little stars on to a cake is very time consuming.  Clearly the results make it worth it, but not before back pain and cramp in your fingers set in. Also, it is so easy that it really is vital that you get it right and that is not as simple as it looks. I am only wining because I am a bit disappointed with this one. I'm sure wee Mareika will like it though, thank goodness children are not so discerning.

Comment received after the party - Hi Tina
Thank you so much for the lovely dinosaur cake, it was a hit and loved by all that attended the party.... Everyone commented on the deco and yummy cake so I told all that asked about you and was more than happy to pass on your email addy.  Thanks again! No doubt, I'll be in contact with you down the track for other cake orders!

3D Elmo

Elmo is my second attempt at a 3D cake, he is made of chocolate cake, too large cakes cut and layered. It took four x my butter cream recipe - so that is 500gms of butter and 1 kilo of icing sugar with 8 Tablespoons of milk to mix, really yummy though, extremely fattening! I used over half a pottle of Wilton red food colouring and it still did not look as red as I wanted. I do think that it would have been a good deep colour the next day (for the party).  I hope so. I hope wee Luke enjoyed it anyway.
